Go to Apple menu> System Preferences> Display and change the screen resolution. Depending on your screen size and type you different resolutions.

The "Resolution" menu will display the resolutions of the graphics card can leave the screen. Go to high resolution (last on the list) and you work your way back. If you have a resolution that your monitor can not display select, turn black and you just press the Esc

Check "Show displays in the menu bar icon and a menu button appears on the left side of the clock. A" memory "of previous resolutions and allows you to change the position when the next time your computer is connected, the solution to quickly change and remember the default settings.

Good luck!
